  4.  CHRISTMAS(?) IN AUSTRALIA

  6.  With the approaching Holiday Season and the return of our
  7. Research Department from their myopic obsession with old
  8. cars and obscure television shows, we have been flooded with
  9. a request for an issue of AJAEN that deals with Christmas in
  10. Australia.  We are thus saddened to inform our readers that
  11. there IS NO true Christmas in Australia.  A comprehensive
  12. survey of our staff reveals that the following things are
  13. necessary for a TRUE Christmas:  Pink plastic trees, cards
  14. showing pictures of deep snow and cedar trees, songs about
  15. sleighbells and fireplaces, cold winter weather, unemployed
  16. actors dressed in red suits stuffed with pillows, plastic
  17. reindeer with red noses, and long articles in TV Guide
  18. deploring the commercialism of the religious festival.  Even
  19. though some of this stuff may be available in Australia on
  20. special order, let's face it, songs about kiwifruits roasting
  21. on open fires just ARE NOT the same, and it is one sure thing
  22. that the weather is not going to be COLD there in mid-summer.
  23. However, let not this you dismay, because psychologists tell
  24. us after all that the Christmas season is boom-time each year
  25. for suicides and morbid depression -- by quickly emigrating to
  26. Christmas-less Australia, you will significantly improve your
  27. chances for mental health, which is what this entire series is
  28. about anyway! (And pay NO attention to all that Christmas stuff
  29. on Australian TV each summer, what do THEY know...)
